In 2011-2012 Marion took part in two online courses. The first was an Oxford Brookes OSCLD Teaching Online Course and the second was the DRHEA Online Assessment and Feedback course.
Marion and Dr Irene Connolly supervised Marianne Checkley as she researches how iScoil an online learning community works with young learners. Marianne was awarded her masters degree in November 2015.
Marion and Dr Olivia Hurley supervised Patrick Healy as he researched the effect of motivation on the self-confidence and anxiety levels of athletes. Patrick was awarded his masters degree in November 2014.
Marion and Dr Grainne Kirwan supervised Kevin Power as he researched cognitive training for older adults. Kevin was awarded his masters degree in November 2011.
Marion supervised Sean McGagh of IT Sligo as he researched Supervision and Assessment of Undergraduate Dissertations, a 2011 MALT research project for WIT. Marion supervised Kevin Collins of IT Sligo as he researched Online Multiple Choice Tests in Engineering, a 2010 MALT research project for Waterford Institute of Technology.
Marion is a member of the reviewer panel for Innovations in Education and Teaching International.

In September 2012 Marion was a member of the College Teaching Awards panel for DIT College of Arts and Tourism. In 2011 Marion was the external member of the DIT Learning Teaching and Assessment Strategy projects panel.
Marion Palmer presented on the topic of Authentic Assessment at the 2012 HECA conference on 20 April 2012. She previously chaired a workshop on Assessment and Standards at the Higher Education Colleges Association conference on 15 April 2011. These conferences enable the private higher education providers to share good practice in higher education.
Marion was an external examiner for the First Year Transition Modules for the IT Sligo BA (Hons) in Social Care Practice/BA(Hons) Early Childhood Care and Education from 2012-2016.
Marion was an external examiner for the Higher Diploma in Science in Computing in eLearning at the National College of Ireland from 2007 to 2009.
Workshops and seminars
In 2011/2012 Marion and Dr Jen Harvey of DIT led an Assessment Seminar at IT Sligo on Assessment and Feedback on 18 November. Marion, Dr Jen Harvey and Dr Liam Boyle led a workshop on Academic Professional Development within the LIN framework: Collaborative Planning for a shared future at the 4th Learning Innovation Network Conference, Ashling Hotel, Dublin on 27 October.
In 2010/2011 Marion and Dr Jen Harvey of DIT led an assessment workshop at ITT Dublin (September 2010) and presented an IT Sligo online webinar (December 2010). In May 2011 Marion and Jen led an interactive session on Exploring critical incidents in assessment for educational developers at the Spring SEDA www.seda.ac.uk conference in Holyrood Hotel, Edinburgh. In June 2011 Marion and Jen led workshops on assessment at IT Blanchardstown for the Department of Business and the 2011 DRHEA eLearning Summer School.
In 2009/2010 Marion led workshops on assessment at IT Carlow November 2009, IT Carlow - Wexford Campus November 2009, Athlone Institute of Technology December 2009, DIT LTTC February 2010.
